Jun. 1 — CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Area plumbers track their union’s 100-year history by economic cycles.

When business is booming, so is construction, plumbers’ bread-and-butter business, said Larry Swope, business manager of Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 149 at Savoy.

“The local was founded by a group of plumbers working for contractors at the University of Illinois and on housing,” said Swope, who is preparing for the centennial celebration of the union local on June 12 at Urbana’s Holiday Inn.

“As the towns started growing, the unions started,” he said. “Peoria’s local is 110 years old

$110m navy boat finally reports for duty

0 Comments | Dominion Post; Wellington, New Zealand, Apr 10, 2010 | by ROBINSON Victoria

DEFENCE MINISTER Wayne Mapp has leapt to the defence of the navy and its newest $110m boat, which arrived from Australia more than two years late.

Engine problems had held up Otago’s delivery for another fortnight.

The offshore patrol boat was built in a Melbourne dockyard and is to be used for maritime counter-terrorism, surveillance and reconnaissance, apprehension and escort of boats, and search and rescue.

Dr Mapp said though New Zealand was not at any risk of maritime terrorism at present, the boat was still value for money. “When you’ve got unstable states, you’ve certainly got the prospect of trans-national crime, drug-running, piracy and things of that nature,” he said.

“We haven’t had those things in our area as yet, but the whole point of a defence force is to be prepared for contingencies that might happen.”

The boat was welcomed yesterday in a ceremony that included the navy band playing When the Saints Go Marching In, and a haka performed by the personnel of the training establishment Philomel.

Otago’s personnel have been in Melbourne since January. The trans- Tasman delivery trip took six days.

If you’re in an airplane on its

Thursday, 29 July 2010

If you’re in an airplane on its way down in a power dive, you put on your parachute first. And THEN you do affirmations.

The old biblical phrase “faith without works is dead” means just that – belief needs to be connected organically with action. Productive action. If it’s not, then it’s not true belief, it’s only an attempt to con yourself and the gods.

Too many people hope that they can do affirmations or pray or ASSERT, and this will save them from having to make a decision and take action. But that’s not the way it works. Action and affirmations must be bonded together as a single unit and support each other like two legs.

Insurance firm takes Square offices

0 Comments | Leicester Mercury, Jul 27, 2010

AN INSURANCE firm will be the latest company to move into Leicester’s Colton Square. Berkeley Insurance Group is to relocate its 54 staff to the prestigious office complex from Regent Street in the city next month.

The company has taken a tenyear lease for 5,600 sq ft on the first floor of Two Colton Square, at site of the former Charles Street police station.

Chairman Andrew Bedford said the new premises gave the firm the space to create another 10 to 12 jobs. “It gives us more space and is a better and much nicer location,” he said.

“It reflects how we feel about the company going forward.”

James Raven, development director at the site’s developer Goodman, said: “We are delighted to welcome Berkeley Insurance Group to Colton Square, which is rapidly emerging as a vibrant new business location in Leicester’s regeneration masterplan.

“The company enjoy an impressive reputation in the region and are an excellent addition to the portfolio of companies based at the development.” Berkeley will join accountants Cooper Parry, law firm Freeth Cartwright, stockbrokers Brewin Dolphin and economic development agency Prospect Leicestershire at Colton Square.

The announcement comes a week after the online training agency, Learndirect, said it was to create 250 jobs on twoand-a-half floors at the neighbouring One Colton Square. Goodman was represented by Innes England and Lambert Smith Hampton and Berkeley by Clive Garner and Partners.

Hot Studio Assists with United Religions Initiative to Foster Peace

0 Comments | Wireless News, Jul 22, 2010

Hot Studio, a people-centered experience design company, partnered with United Religions Initiative (URI) on redesigning the international organization’s Web site, uri.org, which is now live.

URI, which was founded in 2000, is committed to ending religiously motivated violence around the world through interfaith cooperation. It accomplishes its mission through Cooperation Circles — local or virtual groups located in more than 65 countries and comprising people from more than 100 faiths and traditions. The Cooperation Circles exchange reports with each other on how they are deepening interfaith respect and creating cultures of peace in their communities, thus encouraging further activism on this front.

“At Hot, we enjoy partnering with Fortune-500 businesses, and are thrilled about helping shape the experience design around emerging, exciting devices like the iPad,” said Hot Studio CEO and Founder Maria Giudice. “But we equally love working with organizations such as URI whose work enriches our world in unbelievably meaningful ways.”

Hot Studio helped URI create effective online tools that would allow Cooperation Circles to share their stories with each other and site visitors, and collaborated with URI on better communicating the organization’s reach and tremendous global impact in fostering peace on a grass-roots level.

Mark Mancao, Manager of Special Projects and Online Communications at URI, said, “We did a thorough search for the right team to redesign URI.org. Hot Studio clearly stood out from among the rest. We needed solid user experience and design expertise for a complex community with diverse needs. That’s exactly what we got..

Many of us have been tricked into

Wednesday, 28 July 2010

Many of us have been tricked into meeting with these folks and they have wasted our time. Time, which they can never give back.

Well, now you can do something, as the Federal Trade Commission of the Justice Department of the United States of America now has new rules for business opportunities and multi level marketers. Now there is hope to stop these frauds and scams and pyramid schemes in multi-level marketing. If you even think that you’re been scammed by a multi level marketing recruiter you need to get their name and all their information and contact the Federal Trade Commission and turn their butts in. Thank you, and consider this in 2006.
